Title: DS10A Wire Length
Post by: tim on July 14, 2005, 04:28:16 PM
How long is the wire from the DS10A to the
magnetic elements?  I would like to mount
the sensor case up high behind short
curtains and run the wire down to where the
window seperates.  Can the wire be extended
if it isn't long enough?  Thanks.

About 16" on the one I just measured. Sure
you can splice in some added wire. Just
don't go for like across the room. There are
some who have even added a second magnetic
switch in series with the first so they can
have two areas of the window or door covered.

I have actually run over 200 feet of wire
without a problem.  I installed several
magnetic switches in series for a total
length of 200 feet and then connected to
the wireless transmitter and it works
fine.  The transmitters have such a high
impedance that the current flow is minimal
(2.2 microamps), so voltage drops and power
consumption is at a minimum.

Good to know the distance someone has used.
I was just wondering about the high
impedance wiring picking up noise and you
have answered my question.
