Title: Suggestion for non X10-wireless security
Post by: gil on October 30, 2005, 08:42:30 PM
Hi all, I own a small PC business that
caters to homes and small business.  I have
a high end custom home builder that wants a
wireless security system implemented in his
houses.  He's one of these "gotta have the
lastest tech" guys.  After reading some of
the posts in here, I'm leary of buying from
X10.  Can you suggest any good non x10
wireless security systems? Thanks for all
your help.....Gil

Yep go to Smarthome.com and look up
security, then wireless then Securlinc,
think this is the best I've seen and it's
got home automation built in plus you can
call it up and check the status of your
system from anywere in the world! and
control lights ect
enjoy!!!

I have the monitor plus security system. It
has 4 zones, sliding door, front door,
laundry room door, and motion detector
which looks over the living room and dining
room. Its not monitored and the battery
feature no longer works.

I would go with x10 again. Now that
protector plus has dropped in price I would
get that and have it call my neighbors.

I am looking at the Securelinc system. It
appears that it can control devices like
lights and appliances and even utilize a X-
10 remote alarm. It appears from looking at
the manual that it may not work with X10
motion detectors. I believe all of its
sensors for motion, door switches ect are
not X-10 variety but I am not sure. Anyone
have first hand knowledge if the X10
sensors will actually work on the alarm
system?

Hi Gary yep you can't use any x10 security
stuff and that's a GOOD THING! I bought
those 8 motion detectors for something like
60 dollars that x10 ahd on sale a while back
and I've tested 4 and all 4 have given false
alarms. Got them setting in the guest room
with a spare console with the door closed
and all 4 have given false alarms within the
past 2 months! It's my understanding that
the Securelinc is very reliable with no or
very very few false alarms, if I had it to
do all over again I would have gladly spent
the money for the Securelinc, plus you can
call the unit from anyplace in the world and
check the status of your home, turn lights
on and off ect, still planning to post the
link to those FAQ, Happy Holidays to
everyone!!!!

Thanks Tom for the information. I notice
that several companies are selling this
same alarm system with different labeling.
The alarm system is actually a Visonic
Powermax+. Visonic sells this alarm system
to various security stores who put a
different name on it and package it as a
kit. NextAlarm sells the same unit and call
it a Abba Professional series Security
system. NextAlarm makes a inteface so you
can hook it directly to the internet for
alarm monitoring.

Hi Gary thanks for the update I also saw
this unit offered under different names but
I couldn't remember the details. What do you
think about it?, from my understanding it's
suppose to be a pretty reliable system, the
x10 system is cheep and easy to setup but my
experience has been the reliability just
isn’t there. Had to go through 5 motion
detectors before I got two that would
reliably work, God only know when I bit when
they offered the 8 units for 60 dollars
currently in negotiation with them now to
exchange them for a few of the Pro units
those are the only ones I can get to work
and only one of them actually works when you
switch it to two step. Happy Holidays!!
