Title: remote for boat
Post by: alibby on July 19, 2006, 06:27:10 PM
I'm trying to set up a remote control for a customer, so he may hit his remote control (Garage door opener type button) on his boat and light up his dock. I have a 3-way switch for some lights that must stay or incorporate this remote into x-10.

Thanks
Jon

First the good news: It could be done. You would need to plug in a transceiver that would respond to the remote as well as put the lights on X10 switches. I have no idea if the range would be good enough, however.

Now the bad news: I'm not sure how weather resistant the X10 components are. I'd hesitate to use them for outdoor use unless you had weatherproof covers for the switches and the transceiver module.

I think they may make a non X10 product for this purpose but you would have to check a boating supply store for it.

I've install the radio shack remote with x-10 switches and for home stuff (pool lights, garage door lights) I'm hoping for something non radio shack

All the Radio Shack compatible X10 switches were made by X10. Radio Shack has discontinued the line.
