Title: W800RF32A on the Powerline. Special Need.

Hi,

I recently received a free W800RF32A from a friend who moved away. Devices exist to put the output of WGL's V572A on the powerline: the TW523, PCS05, and perhaps some other dev's I haven't run across yet in my research. Does there exist, anywhere in the world, a device that does this for the W800RF32A? (i.e., a PCS05-like device for the W800RF32A.)  I have an extremely remedial X10 setup at home and would NOT like to invest a lot of time or money into achieving the same results as the V572A/PCS05 combo (no programming!). I would love to spend $50, connect some devices, set a device's settings, and go on living. (Wouldn't we all? One can wish.)  :)

If anyone has any leads, I would greatly appreciate your input. AND, if there's somewhere else I should be posting this sort of question, please let me know where to go! Thanks much!

The W800RF32A receives the RF signals and send them Raw out a serial port and can even do Extended Codes the V572A will not process. Problem is it is not in a X10 code that can be sent to the powerline through the interface PSC05 or TW523. It needs a computer program or console that can interpert it and send the proper codes on the powerline.
Maybe someone knows of a interface that can do the raw data and send it to the powerline. If so I would also be interested in such a device.

I'm interested in your comment that the W800RF32A can do Extended Codes.  I know it can do Security codes, e.g., from Door/Window sensors and Security remotes, but what transmitter sends RF Extended Codes?  And what is the W800RF32A format for RF Extended Codes?

WGL says the "Entertainment Anywhere Remote" sends extended codes as do things like the Security DS10 Module. They have examples of things they have done with a DS10 module. Protocol format data is also on the WGL site.

WGL's terminology is misleading.  The Entertainment Anywhere Remote (EAR)  codes are "extended" only in the sense they have different values than the normal X10 RF codes. They are not in any way related to the PLC Extended Code supported by X-10 2-way modules like the LM14A. The  EAR sends a code which uses the same RF protocol as what's sent by a normal X10 remote like a PalmPad, only including  one bit set which inhibits it from being transceived by a TM751 or RR501 (and which bit the V572 ignores).  This same code can be transmitted with a CM17A Firecracker using the appropriate software.

The X-10 Security Codes like those transmitted by the DS10 use a different RF protocol than normal X-10 remote codes.  The W800RF32A can receive these security codes and write them to the serial port; The appropriate software can recognize them as security codes and make use of them.  These codes too have no relationship to the Extended Codes supported bt the LM14A.  The security codes cannot be transmitted by a CM17A Firecracker.

Here's a stand-alone app I wrote that was built for the W800RF32A:

It captures a RF signal and passes it to a custom script you can mangle
to trigger just about any activity including passing a signal back out
the power line through another device (more on this if interested)

There some info there on how to lock and unlock your computer
screen with a x10 remote too.

I have been looking at the w800RF32A as well. Looking to get more range. I have a 2 story 4,500 sq ft place and a garage another 70 feet in back of that. Would like to get more range as easy as I can. Not sure addtional antenna on the CM15A or some other extender for RF would be better. I do have the XTB-IIR and that is great for likes etc but the RF for security is lousy. I have read alot of posts but would like anyones options of what works best for the RF problems.

You could try selling your w800rf to someone who wants one, and buy what you want!
