Title: IR Remote?
Post by: Brody8838 on September 04, 2006, 08:43:55 PM
i am in the process of configuring my media room. I want to use a Sony RMAX-4000 and have a SR-731 or a IR-543 to recieve ir signals and convert to RF. However I read that the Sony remote can handle x-10 commands on its own, but can not find anything about it in the users manual or software. I am looking for a remote that sends x-10 IR, so i can learn the Sony remote with it. Does anybody know of such a remote??? Thanks

I too have the Sony RMAX-4000 remote, sorry but I haven't tried using the X10 commands that are available with the remote.  You might try contacting Sony's technical support.  I had a problem early on with the RMAX-4000 and Sony's technical support was very helpful.  In fact, I spent about 30-45 minutes with the technician on the telephone while we resolved the problem.  Let us know what you find out.

The X10 UR74A Universal Learning Remote is capable of sending both RF and IR X10 commands which are built in.  In fact you can program it to do either depending on which device button you push first.  You can get these from X10 or, the last time I looked, on EBay for a more reasonable price.

While it's not as ergonomically elegant as my Tivo remote I keep a UR74A near my computer to operate the Tivo when I'm dubbing programs from the Tivo to the DVD recorder in my computer.  It also operates the TV set, the VCR and the regular DVD player as well as lights in the same room via my CM15A using the RF function.
