Receptacle Module (SR227) turns off by itself
« on: October 18, 2006, 06:18:25 PM »

Hello,
I am using an X10 Receptacle Module (SR227) to control a fish pond pump and two UV sterilizer lamps. The total current draw is 900W (>7 amps).
The SR227 occasi ???onally turns itself off, perhaps every two days.  The SR227 is over 2000 feet from the nearest home.   There is a 1/3 hp swimming pool pump on the same circuit, but it is not controlled by the SR277 and it is about 30 feet away.

I have tired an appliance module and I have the same problem. I have also tried several house codes with the same result.   Would a PAM02 Heavy Duty Appliance Module solve the problem?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Sound initially like noise.   Look for things that turn on when the module turns off.   I'd suppose you already tried that.

Test with a module that has AGC.   It will constantly monitor the powerline for noise and adjust it's noise threshold.   If the noise increase is consistant instead of sporatic, then it may fix your problem as the module will require a proper signal to noise ratio before responding to signals.

That doesn't fix your problem by any means.   Just a thought.   If your powerline is really giving you problems you have to find the source of the stray signal and filter it there.

Not sure if the TM751 is rated to handle that load, but you if it can you can plug the equipment in to that and just due regular RF and skip the powerline if you can't trace the problem.

I plugged a TM751 in next to the SR277 (there are four receptacles in the box). I can not use the TM751 to control the system, since it will not take a three prong plug.

I can turn on and off the system just fine, but still the system turns off all by itself every few days, which do not make sense.

Is it possible that the SR277 is defective?

A stray noice signal?
Brownouts?
Bad SR227?

If it happens with an appliance module as well then it's likely
not the SR227.

If the problem didn't occur with the appliance module than
I would suspect the SR227.

I have not heard of any case where the devices would
just shut off by itself.   There are things I run connected
to appliance modules that are on for weeks at a time.

Maybe someone else will have feedback.

3 prong Modules with AGC:
PAM02/AM466
PAM22/AM15A

If you can get ahold of one to see if it help then you can try.

It will only mask the problem if it does help at all.

Other than lights when they get a power interuption, I haven't either.

Most of the time my problems are things that won't turn on or that come on with stay signals. Also the ghost on signal (C5 ON in my case) the AHP bug creates. (I use a 1 second delay command after all my dim commands as a work around for that bug.)

I'd monitor and look for when a off signal is sent. Also put something else on the same code and see if it switches off also.
