MS14A Question
« on: December 18, 2006, 08:55:17 PM »

Hi,

I am slightly confused about the functionality of the MS14A.

I currently have it installed in my garage.  It turns on a lamp via a Socket Rocket (Unit Code 7) when motion is detected.  We just put up our Christmas tree and connected it to an appliance module (Unit Code 8).  Now, the tree is turning on and off by itself.

I read the instruction sheet for the MS14A several times.  From what I can tell, it is sending the UC+1 signal that is turning the tree on and off.  From what I understand from reading (I could be wrong), this is the function to turn "additional" lights on when it gets dark.

My question is this...

Can I configure the MS14A to detect motion at all times (day or night) and turn on UC7 (my garage light) but configure it NOT to send the UC+1 signals at all?

Thanks,

-Steve

Check out this thread: Which Motion Sensor do I need?

To answer your question, the MS14A can be set to detect only in the dark or all the time, but it cannot have the UC + 1 disabled.

That helps.

It sure seems kinda silly (the UC+1, that is).

Is there any creative way to get around the problem I am having?  What happens if I set the MS14A to trigger code 16?  Will the UC+1 do nothing or does it trigger Unit Code 1?  Any other ideas or suggestions?

Setting to 16 will trigger 1! :'(
The +1 is for dusk dawn settings you can add a piece of tape to the light sensor inside  ;) :D ;D
If you do an Advanced Search you may find more detail on this! ;) :D ;D

When using motion sensors (even MS16A's) you should leave UC + 1 unused. If you want to use that feature at a later time, then the address is available and you don't have to change your current set up.

Did you see TakeTheActive's post on HOUSECODES: By Room or By Module Type or By Function or...?

It's good to apply some logic to your House Code set up.  ;)

Yes, actually I did quite a bit of planning when designing my setup and configuration.  I just didn't realize that the motion detector did what it's doing until I put a device on that UC+1 code.  I guess it's NBD.  I'll just move it.  Thanks for the help.
