AHP crashes with iWitness
« on: February 12, 2006, 12:01:22 AM »

Hi,
I installed AHP with iWitness.  After
spending a good couple of hours getting the
driver to install, everything seemed to
work ok.  Then I set up a motion sensor to
trigger the iWitness recording, and then
turn off recording 5 minutes after
receiving the end of motion event from the
motion detector.  AHP crashed every single
time.  The application terminates with a
memory read error.  This is a significant
issue, as it makes iWitness essentially
useless for what was described as one of
its "most powerful features."

I am having the same issues.  Everything seems to be related, whether it be time stamp issues or just video conflicts.  WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO FIX THIS STUFF!!!?? So far the way I look at it, I've spent 50$ on a 20$ video capture device and software that DOESN'T WORK!!

noudo and others...
I'm not sure at this point where the problem lies but I have the VA11A USB Adaptor and the iWitness plugin and don't have any problems with crashes. (never crashed once)

At this stage I would suggest that if your having problems post here what you have for equipment. Model numbers of your X10 gear, version numbers of the software and what plugins you have and perhaps what computer specs you have on your computer. It would also be helpful to tell us what error messages your getting if any and what the details are in that error. We have members that are good with both the X10 software and some of the Windows software issues.

I am running into roughly the same thing...
I have used the software on and off for some time, like others, got frustrated and put it away, spent more money and pulled it all back out again.
Running AHP 3.204 on an XP Home machine, P4 1.7  with 512
AHP itself has been bug-free for a few weeks now.  Just got the VA11A in the mail today (found out the hard way that the VX10 I had didn't work)  and reinstalled the drivers, as sent by an X10 staffer, plugged the thing in, and Voila, Video!  I noted tho, that when using video it significantly slowed track-time of my mouse, and slowed the PC in general.
Now a few hours later, AHP is FINE until I click on a video screen to view a video (I don't have any recording, or capture set as of yet)
This basically crashes the pc (the swithcing to video)  I can't even CTL-ALT-DEL  so I use the Pull the Power Plug key and start again.

Suggestions to find the conflict anyone?  I find it interesting it started later in the day today, initially worked so-so and now not at all.

Could possibly be an audio or video codec you have installed on the PC.  Can you provide a list of all the codecs you have installed and the one that iWitness is currently set to use?

Good catch hostilejava   many have found that simply switching to a different codec solved the crashing problem! ;) :D ;D

To change your codec and find the list of all, it is in "Preferences" under "Video Settings" ;) :D ;D

I was having the same problem early on.
I am glad to say it appears to be fixed now.

After about a month of playing around with the system.
I finally realized that I had the VA11A (Video Adapter) and the CM15A (Computer Interface) plugged into the same hub.
I plugged them into separate hubs, I have been able to record without crashing for a month or so now.

I still have the problem with the recording not being long enough.
I put a 5 minute delay in the macro and it stops recording after 3 minutes.
Allthough this is an improvement few weeks ago it would only record for 1.5 minutes.
