You could always just add a pressure sensitive mat Don't like the chime that comes with it, wire in a security sensor and have AHP do the rest!
Great idea!!!! I feel complimented that we think alike.
You might be able to use something like an Alarm Mat (you can actually make your own) that the dog would trigger when it sits at the door. The closed switch could be used to trigger a powerflash module.... or a hacked "eye" motion sensor. Even a security Door/Window sensor (DS10A) if you use a HA PC with AHP running 24/7. (The siren used with the Harbor Freight mat is WAY too loud for just an alert)
I don't know how I missed that Dave.
The best & cheepest solution would be to make your own mat (from your link Dave) keeping it small and placing it right where the dog sits or make a small strip mat (no one said it has to be as big as the example) that sits right at the edge of the door.
People usually won't trigger it but the dogs front paws should.
Hook up a security sensor and have AHP just turn on a light when activated when the sensor resets light goes out.
Use your example of triggering a night light and the system won't be as irritating as a chime especially if a person trips it!
