HomeZIX C# capability does provide unparalleled flexibility that no other home automation scripts do. In this demonstration, we will show you how to program and use the Pocket PC to work with HomeZIX software to control automation devices. Full source code is provided.
The goal
You would be able to walk around the house with your PocketPC (WiFi enabled), and control automation devices.
System setup and how it works
Run HomeZIX software on a computer (the one in the office room.) and populate one X10 ON/OFF switch and one Zwave dimmer. Then drop in an Advanced Script and load the attached script in. Open the C# editor window and scroll down to where it receives commands from the PocketPC and modify it to turn the X10 on and off and change Zwave dimmer level. Don’t forget to switch HomeZIX to the “Run” mode by choosing “Manage”->”Run”.
Now run the software, PocketZIX, on a PocketPC that is connected to the Wifi in your house. Click on the “Program” menu, then choose “Connect to HomeZIX”. Enter the IP address and TCP port of the computer that is running HomeZIX. When you click the ON or OFF button, or scroll the track bar, PocketZIX sends simple commands to HomeZIX. The C# scripts on HomeZIX receives commands and acts accordingly.
Now, you can go anywhere in your house with the power in your hand to control automation devices (e.g. Click a button to turn off a light and dimmer the other to start watching movies.) Possibilities are endless. It’s totally up to you. We just provide the tool for you to make it happen.
Customizing the code
We release full source code for both HomeZIX script and PocketPC application. You can download and customize the attached files. Please note that if you want to customize PocketZIX, it requires Visual Studio 2005 and your PocketPC must support and install .NET Compact Framework 2.0.
