Metal Halide 100Wx2 and WS467
« on: June 20, 2007, 03:08:30 AM »

Just installed two MH 100Wx2, with a WS467.  Tryng to use Active Home Pro to automatically switch these on/off for security.  But when even switching them on manually, the MH begin to light, but they take a while to get to full illumination (normal for MH).  Before they can get to full illumination, they shut off.  Is this an issue with the WS467?  or the line?  or do MH's just not work with X10 Home Automation?  Any help much appreciated.  Thank you.

mbschs the WS467 switch is a dimable light switch made to work with incandescent lighting. I don't own any Metal Halide lights but I think they use a transformer or ballast type system for starting. The switch you want to try is a WS13A which is an appliance type module switch. This switch however is a Decorator Style switch.

If you do a search for "Metal Halide" you will find some other posts on these lights.

The ws467 gets its operating power through the load [light bulb] and the metal halide lights do not allow the proper current through the ws467 as it warmes up.
The ws13A is a relay type as KDR mentioned and would be a good choice. One extra thing to check. It needs a neutral power wire in the switch box to work as it does not steal power through the loads.
