I searched through the forums but could not find this question and answer.  I have a socket Rocket on my porch light and gave my teenage daughter one of the small remotes so she can turn it one from the driveway before getting out of her car.  It all works great.  However, when we are home it sure would be nice to be able to turn the porch light on and off with the wall switch without having to find one of the remote controls.  Why can't the socket rockets be tripped on like the appliance modules with a cycle of on and off at the switch?  Is there another way around this?  If I can't solve it soon my wife will have me take the socket rocket out.

I don't use any socket rockets, so I don't know if they can be triggered on by removing and applying power. However, even if it could, when it gets turned off manually with the switch then it cannot be turned on remotely for your daughter.

I think the only way to get the best of both worlds here is to replace the inside switch itself with an X10 one and remove the socket rocket.

Most wall switches do not send a line signal when operated locally. You could also mount one of the slim transmitters where you would like to control the light. Your best bet would be to take Puck's suggestion and switch to controlling the light with a wall switch instead of the socket rocket.

BTW.. I'm assuming the light isn't a CFL and can be dimmed.

The Socket Rocket always is off after you cycle the power as are the Lamp Modules. They do not have the mechanical switch in it like a appliance module where the switch is on or off depending on its state when powered off. There is no way around this with a Socket Rocket. Some other brand modules do remember their previous state but are not socket mounted.

*AND*, for the next 30 seconds after power is restored, it's in PROGRAMMING MODE (any PLC signal repeated 3 times becomes the new HouseCode/UnitCode combination).

Replacing it with an X10 Wall Switch would solve your problem.

Another option is to replace the wall switch with one that transmits status.

When you turn the wall switch off you remove the power from the socket rocket, consequently it is out of commission same as it was in the box. 

The wall switch suggestion would be your best solution.  If you have a CFL (florescent lamp) replace it with a tungsten bulb, a lot cheaper then most other solutions.
