Cannot get MS14a to activate flood light. . .
« on: October 16, 2006, 10:21:29 PM »

Hello all, first time post here.  I am trying to set up a Halloween display and need a little assistance.  Been on the phone with X10 most of the day and still no results.  My issue is that I'm attempting to switch off a flood light when motion is activated.  I'm using the AM466 plugged to a standard shop flood light, the CM15A and a MS14A.  I created my "Halloween Lights" room and moved the AM466 and MS14A modules into it and corresponded all the house codes (A1).  I then, created a macro, but the only modules in the drop-down list on the right is the AM466 (I don't know if the motion sensor should be there too, but it isn't).  The time line goes like this:
AM466 (A1) OFF
Delay 10 seconds
AM466 (A1) ON
Total 10 seconds

Now, back to the room.  I can click on the "Run Macro" button in my "New Macro 1" and the flood light (always on) shuts off for 10 seconds and then turns back on.  That's what I want it to do.  However, I would like the flood light to do the same thing, only triggered by motion.  It does not.
When I wave my hand in front of the motion sensor, you can see green circles flashing on that module as well as the "Run Macro" box flashes, but the flood light does nothing.  It just stays on.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Rob G.

You state your useing "A1"
Hope that is the motion sensor,AM466 should be on another house code

macro would be:
 Trigger A1 ON
AM466 (B1) OFF
Delay 10 seconds
AM466 (B1) ON
Total 10 seconds
if you put your AN466 on B1 ;)

Saved to the interface and test with the motion sensor or by pressing A1 on a remote

Hi, I just got my AHP system a few days ago, but i am trying something like what rjgilliam is trying to do only with my porch light, i have MS16A and im trying to get it to turn the light on when it picks up motion, then turn off when it picks up motion again...  kind of like one of those laser trip wires..  i looked all around the x10 web page but could not find anything like that...  any ideas??    please keep in mind that i have only had AHP for 3 days now so i have not got into timers and macros yet...

DoMortas: Welcome to the forum.

A few questions about this first:

...i have MS16A and im trying to get it to turn the light on when it picks up motion, then turn off when it picks up motion again...

So you want it to alternate between ON & OFF ever few seconds when someone is within the motion sensors range? Or just once and if so how long before it repeats?

If the last detected movement leaves the light ON, when do you want it to turn OFF? With the motion sensor's OFF signal?

What X10 address's are your light & MS16A set to?

Do you have the Smart Macros plug-in?

Puck: I want to set it up like this..
motion, turn the light on
no motion, light stays on
motion again, light still stays on
no motion, light turns off
no i do not have the smart macro plug-in
on-off timer set to 1 minute

i don't know if that will work or not, i have not worked with the macro's yet, wanted to see if it could be done before i wasted a lot of time messing around..

P.S.  thanks for the welcome  :)    i am VERY happy with this system!!    and the motion sensor for the kitchen light( not the one i'm asking about) works 100% i love it!

I'm not sure I am interpreting what you are trying to do here, but this is how I am reading it:

1) MS16A ON Signal: Light ON
2) MS16A OFF Signal (set to 1 minute after last detected motion): do nothing (will not turn light off)
3) MS16A ON Signal: do nothing (light still on from 1st motion detection)
4) MS16A OFF Signal (set to 1 minute after last detected motion): Light OFF
...repeat

I've never run AHP without Smart Macros so I don't know what you're limited to, but if this is what you want to do I can see Status Flags and/or Monitored House Code conditions being required.
