Pets and motion dectors
« on: October 22, 2007, 06:06:21 PM »

I'm a newbie.  I've install 4 ds7000 systems for myself and friends and so far everything works as promised.  However,  the motion detectors in 1 house with a cat who likes to jump up on the furniture is killing me.  I turned the M dect.  upside down on the wall mount so the sensor would lookstraight ahead and also at the ceiling.  A height that I believe the cat would not get up to (as told to me by its owner).  The M dect. is still kicking off when the person is not home and house of course is fully armed.

Does anyone have any other ideas to keep motion dect. quiet and also keeping the cat?

Thanks,  Bill

Have you tried taping off sections of the Sensor?
Or just remove the sensor, many things will trip them!

Thanks,  I will try taping part of motion Dect.  I like the backup it provides,  assuming no problems.  The other 3 systems I installed with multiple mot. dect. are doing fine. I guess we need to ask the cat to stand still.

Does the motion dect. (when vert. to wall) look straight ahead at the top of window and downward near the bottom of window?

Thx,  Bill

you can also try mounting it lower (but higher then the furniture the cat jumps up on) and pointing/tilting it up towards the ceiling.......or take the cat and...........nevermind ;D

Did you try the X10 wiki?
There is a Q&A: Will pets trigger X10 motion sensors?
Use the Tape suggestion and slowly add the amount of tape to the bottom of the IR len untill the cat no longer is seen! ;)
