I must be technologically challenged, but I can't get my socket rockets to set to a chosen address. I've read the instructions and been told I need to send "ON" three times (not ON - OFF), but they don't seem to set. Most work on their default A1 settings. One doesn't, which makes me think it took a setting at some point.

Here are the questions:
1) What is the best way to set one?
2) If I have used it as A1, will it still reset?
3) Is there a way to check the address of one (short of trying every possible combination) ?

What X10 equipment do you have?
You need a transceiver and a remote (sender) of some sort!

1 I have used a PlalmPad and RR501 Tranceiver, but any X10 sending device will work. As I have also used a Mini-Controller; Maxi-Controller and a few Smarthome senders.
The key is this must be done in 30 seconds of turning on the power to the Socket Rocket.
2 Sure I am constantly changing addresses on them. One thing that has sometimes messed up folks. If you have any motion sensors; they seem to have a sense of when to send and mess up; your attempt to set the Socket Rocket.

I have tried a few things. I have an old mini controller (about 25 years old, but it works), a sundowner (which I haven't tried for this), a hand held (which I haven't tried), and an interface. I tried the interface & the mini controller. Somebody said I should press ON-ON-ON. I think I tried the mini controller before getting that advice and pressed ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF. I tried sending just ONs from the computer using the interface, but the software doesn't seem to work for that.

I have had the light with the socket rocket & whatever I was using plugged into the same outlet or power strip. The instructions were clear on that bit.

If you are using the CM15A with AHP. Some have said make a dummy Chime Module on the address you want. Then turn on the power to the Socket Rocket and use the software to chime the dummy module three times. Since it remembers the address. Many put it in the same outlet as the controller in maybe a table lamp. Then program it and move it.

I just use a lamp and a MC460 to set a Socket rocket.   Send the code you want to use from the MC460 three times, then move the Socket Rocket to where you want to use it.

No fuss, no muss.

I just ordered a Maxi Controller, which is listed in the instructions. I had been using other devices which were not listed. We'll see how it goes. Most people seem to like the rockets and have no problems setting them. I'm using one right now.............. set to A1 of course.

Maxi Controller or MC460, it makes no difference.  I use a MC460 as they are less expensive than a SC 506.  I have one SC506 in my Living Room and I've never used it to it's full capacity.
