I've lost control
« on: June 29, 2009, 08:06:15 PM »

Hello all.  New to X10 but trying to learn fast!  Bought a house recently and found an odd light switch in the pool box controlling my pool light.  After much research I come to find it is a X10 Dimmer switch (push button style with the override switch below the button).  Reading what X10 can do, I thought I would explore putting the switch to use.  So I purchased an inexpensive, corded transceiver/controller just to see if I could get anything to work.  Sure enough, after adjusting the codes on the switch, I could get the controller to turn the light on and off.  With the concept proved, I went off to exchange the corded setup for a nice wireless setup.  I purchased the remote control package which included a remote control, a lamp module, and a TM751 Transceiver.  The Transceiver module responds to the remote and is able to communicate with the lamp module, which listens and responds accordingly, but I cannot get the pool light to be controlled using the remote/transceiver.  I have tried plugging the transceiver in to an outlet right next to, and on the same wire as, the pool light switch but to no avail.  Any thoughts?

Probably noise.  BTW, are you interested in adding Active Home Pro and the usb CM15A interface to your X10 system?

Verify TM751 and pool light are on same House Code and plug the TM751 into the same outlet where you plugged the working corded controller in and see if things work. Besides noise, it could also be phase coupling problems. The forum is full of information on both problems. Also check this http://jvde.us/x10_troubleshooting.htm

Thanks guys.

Dan,
I would like to add more to the system, including the computer interface, but not if I can't get working what I already have!

Dave,
Rechecked the house codes and did try the same outlet as before.  Was reading a bit about possible phase coupling issues but will explore more.

Was reading a bit about possible phase coupling issues .........

Try switching OFF the circuit (at the breaker box) that controls your light... then see if you can also find a plug on that same (now off circuit) to plug the TM751 into. That should resolve this issue now... then resolving the phase issue will allow you to expand your setup.
