Question about CM15A Mods

Happy Holidays to everyone.

I recently did the antenna length doubling mod by soldering a wire to the end of the CM15A existing antenna. Works Great!!! My range doubled (give or take). Mind you that's still only about 20 feet in a concrete walled apartment.

I plan on doing the F connector mod later on.

My question has to do with the power connectors. The CM15A plugs into the wall and sends out X10 codes on the power line. I was thinking that it would be nice, once I do the F-connector mod that I could also remove the metal tabs to plug the CM15A into the wall, and install a regular plug with a wire. That way, the CM15A could sit anywhere (floor, desk) akin to a power supply for a laptop and the USB, Power, and Antenna wires could go wherever they need to go.

In theory, I don't think this will affect the X10 codes. I was wondernig if anyone tried this, or if there was any reason I shouldn't do this...??? (Comments about voiding warranty not necessary ;) )

Thanks for any input.

My guess is that it should work fine...but why not just use an extension cord?

Should be fine unless the cord is extremely long.
I also would go for the extension code if possible. No warranty voided that way.

The reason for the low range in your case is the re-bar used for concrete reinforcement!
The wire connection is a good Idea so you can mount the CM15A as height as possible!
Many have used extention cords without any degraded performance! ;)

I had my CM15A on a cheap 6 foot extension cord for a while because I have my computer on an XPPF and couldn't plug the CM15A into the power strip because of the filter. It worked without any issues, however the extension cord was only 6 feet long. I have since relocated the CM15A so it is no longer on the extension cord, but it did work just fine when it was on the extension cord. I like you mod idea, you should give us all an update once it is done.

My cm15a is on a cheapo 2 wire xmas light type extension cord.
Works great without any issues.

I would use an extension cord.
You can always go back to plugging in the cm15a if your situation changes.
