X10 Switches turn off but not on
« on: April 17, 2008, 12:54:11 AM »

I have have several x10 devices throughout my home and it has worked perfectly for years.
I recently added 2 Leviton 6381 switches to 2 outdoor incandescent fixtures however I can't get them to turn on through my CM11A interface.
They turn off every night via the CM11A if I turn them on manually and I can even turn them on and off by my RF controller.
I have tried plugging the CM11A into several different outlets including one right before the light fixture!
All the while no matter where the CM11A is plugged in all the other devices throughout my 3000 SF house work fine as they always have!

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Which transceiver are you using?
What address are the problem devices set to?
Do you Have a phase coupler?
Have you mapped you circuits?
Sorry for all the question but we need to know as much detail as possible to narrow down possible problems!

The problem is with my CM11A computer interface.
The addresses are A5 & A6 for the 2 problem switches
I do not have a phase coupler and the other devices always work fine, including some older 6381 switches.
I have a very accurate map of the wiring in my house since I wired it myself (I am an Electrician), I even put it on the outlet right before the switch with nothing else plugged into that circuit and it still won't work.
They do turn off though and they also respond to my HD501 RF Transceiver for all commands.

The problem is with my CM11A computer interface.
This could very well be since the CM11A is an old serial port device! ::)
Many users have moved up to the CM15A as it is compatible with more devices!
Perhaps a member that has the CM11A can shed some light as to if these switches are indeed compatible with the CM11A! ::) ???
One more question which may help another with a responce what software are you using? I assume ActiveHome but I've been wrong before! ::) :-[

If you plug what ever you are using as a transceiver (TM751 or RR501) into the same outlet as the CM11, will the lights turn on using one of your RF controllers?

Also, in your software try defining the HCUCs for the fixtures as appliance modules or LM14A lamp modules, and send an ON command, do they work then?

Yes the transiever works anywhere the only problem is turning on withe the CM11A.
I am going to order a CM15 and new software, after 10 years it's probably time for an upgrade!

SoundShore,

I hope I'm not too late... It's been many years since I've used the CM11a.  I did have a similar problem interfacing the Leviton switches to the CM15a and ActiveHomePro.

I'm not sure how to do this with the CM11a, but with the CM15a I re-identified the switches as On/OFF only fluorescent switches - worked perfectly (On/Off Only).  It seems there's a problem with the software interface for the Leviton units.

Later I began using the extended code commands to execute "direct DIM" (go directly to a dim level).  If you're interested I could dig around and come up with the code for this (The CM11a may not support extended code commands - I don't remember).

The point here is, I don't think that your CM11a hardware is at fault.  It may the the software interface, and I don't think the CM15a software interface fixes the problem.

Good idea!!!  What O/S on the computer right now?  There are known problems with serial communication on certain motherboards with WindowsXP installed.

Save your .x10 files from Active Home, Active Home Pro will import and convert them to the .ahx files AHP uses, so everything you have now you will still have.
