Online/Connect button keeps alternating

I can't seem to stay connected. My status info indicates I go online/offline every 30 sec... How can I keep a steady connection?
I'm running on a fat cable connection 8500+ kb/s down and 500+ kb/s up. So I doubt is my connection. Running NO virus software. I'm behind a Dlink router.
What can I do to correct this?

Unfortunately x10's severs continue to be main issues with many, and since they are short on IT people don't expect the problem to get solved soon!

See if your modem and router are set to one of the following "smart keep alive" or "keep alive" or even "alive".
