Motiom detector

After struggling with getting Commander to recognize my VCR remote (once I understood the directions it seems to have worked) I have problem with motion detector being recognized. 

Luckily I am retired and can waste the days.

Here is situation-

Commander is blinking nice and steady--but when I activate motion detector, commander blink does not change.

1. Camera is set to A1--I THINK motion detector is also--the blinks are confusing to me.  From the directions the default on the motion detecter is A1--does this go to default automatically when I remove and replace batteries??

2.  Does the motion detecter need to be close to the camera??  Or does it transmit entirely seperately (independently) from the camera so it could be in another part of the house.?

Sure wish I was 15 again so I could figure this out.

Any help would be appreciated.

1. The cameras address is set on the small dials on the cameras power supply. So looking at the dials will show you. Yes any time with no batteries installed and the motion sensors revert to A1.

2. Cameras are not directly turned on and off by any X10 RF signals like from the motion sensor. A transceiver has to take the RF signal from the motion sensor and send an X10 power line signal to turn the camera power supply on and off. I am not sure if the VCR Commander can send X10 signals on the power line. Did you get anything else in your package of devices? I may do a test with a VCR Commander and edit this as I find more out. When first powered on. The cameras default to ON so if you have one camera and don't mind it on all the time. The motion sensor may not have to control it. Though it maybe nice.
The cameras transmit directly to the video receiver you connected to the TV or VCR. In the 2.4 Hz band.
The motion sensors use 310 MHz. So the cameras and motion sensors; don't talk to each other.

BTW-the mini reciever (the one for the x10 remote) has a female plug on it--What is this for?

what I am looking for ia to have the camera always on, but record what it sees once the motion detecter triggers commander/VCR-
