Sensing a house address state with the CM15A?
« on: July 19, 2008, 11:51:02 PM »

Hi,

Recently I purchased and used AHP to automate watering of the lawn at my home place. Watering takes place on even days of the calendar year only since my street address is an even number (this even/odd business is the fruit of a municipal bylaw). The CM15A controls five water valves that are turned ON and OFF at specific times. I'm very happy with the result because everything works as expected.

When there is heavy rain on even days, I don't want the automatic watering sequence to take place since it is a waste of water. So I added a macro that prevents watering on an even day if I push a house code button on the HR12A remote before the watering begins on an even day. It works fine and once again I'm pleased with the result.

Now I would like to not be involved in the process of deciding if there was enough rain during the day to warrant cancelling the watering sequence. Looking for a moisture sensor that could be used to make that decision, I found at Irrometer.com a sensor that seems appropriate (it's called a WaterSwitch, WS1). The sensor switch could turn ON a house code on a Powerflash interface (PSC01).

It's been a long time coming but here is my question: can the CM15A sense the ON command from the Powerflash interface and trigger a macro that would set or clear a flag used to cancel the watering sequence. If what I have in mind does not make sense for one reason or another please feel free to put me on the track.

thanks!

Simply put, it sounds to me like if you set the PowerFlash to the same House Code / Unit Code as your HR12A button is sending, you should have no problem.

In the real world, the only constant is change.

I reviewed the Web Page you mentioned... [and whereas I don't see how you will connect the powerflash unit to it....] the CM15A will hear the ON command from the Powerflash interface.

I use a powerflash on my garage door / BVC setup, to get voice announcements when the gaeage door is open. The powerflash units are really handy with Home Automation.

I agree. If a push of a button on your HR12A is able to send a code and trigger whatever macros you have to prevent watering, then the same code from a PowerFlash should do the same thing for you.
I don't know if your WaterSwitch will send multiple signals during the day and if that would be a problem but as Bill put it the PowerFlash signal should be just like the an HR12 signal to your AHP.
