UR74A sending RF command when using the TV button
« on: January 16, 2009, 02:50:43 AM »

I noticed that my UR74a (6-in-1 remote) is sending RF signals for the D house code when I have it set up to run my TV with IR.

I program my remote to control the TV using code 0185. and it works great. Controls my TV though its IR port. NOW along with controlling my TV I get house code D RF commands.
I tell my TV to turn the Vol. up and it does but if I look at the activity monitor in AHP it show a D14 on command everytime. Does the same thing with VCR and CAB commands when using the codes 0185... I also checked a couple more codes some send D commands and some send no RF commands at all. I didn't go though all the codes maybe some send other house codes other then D. It seems that the remotes IR and RF are getting mixed together.

This is a pain but I just don't use anything on the D house code plus it seems the cm15a wont see the RF command about 20 feet away from it. Kind a like the signal is weaker then the normal RF that comes from the X10 button on the remote.  This could give someone problems if they do use the D house code. Cause every time the use the remote to control there TV a RF command is sent and maybe your coffee maker comes on too lol or what ever you have on the D house code.

In our late night chats at KDR's Chat room we came across some info that says:
"Except for the difference in carrier frequencies, the RF protocol that X-10 uses for standard (i.e. non-security) X-10 RF devices is identical to the original NEC IR protocol which is widely used for IR remote controls."

SO anyone else see this with their remotes maybe even a ICON that might do it.  Or am I they only lucky one lol.

I noticed that my UR74a (6-in-1 remote) is sending RF signals for the D house code when I have it set up to run my TV with IR.

I own a UR74A! I keep it in a drawer in the kitchen. It has a great X10 RF all ON/all OFF function too. I got the remote as part of a deal (I love the deals). When the wife complained about having to go downstairs - to push a button - to turn off the Theater lights... I programed the remote to use the same code as my [basement] Theater. WAF was saved and because wifes don't seem to love change a lot... the remote still lives in a kitchen drawer. Even though I have created a macro to turn everything off.

The easy fix... is change its X10 RF code to House code A (fold-out page # 16). And keep a TM751 handy set to A also. That way as you get new X10 devices (set to the default A House code) you can easily test those devices. I have my office set to the back-half of the A code... for just that reason.

And you can also setup some A code listeners in BVC... and discretely cause BVC to make noises, say things, or even (I know your a PC Companion user) give you local weather conditions.

Hummm I was just in the kitchen refilling my coffee cup and checked my remote. Mine is actually a UR73A.. but I think the info is still the same.

Sorry Dave I'm confused ....I don't know how that is a easy fix to my problem......... the remote is set to send x10 rf A house code...but.......

I use this remote in the video game room.....but the problem is that all the buttons to control my TV is sending RF D house code at the same time it is sending IR controls to my TV.  For example with the remote set to TV I press the mute button and the TV mutes and at the same time I check the AHP monitor and it shows a D14 off command ...everytime. I also checked and played with it if I set the TV button to another TV IR code..It will start to send M house code commands too.

Well not to much a problem for me just a weird thing. Why would the remote on the TV setting be sending RF at all... Maybe someone can check their remotes and see if they see the same thing.....I could have a funny acting remote. MR. Bill (wgjohns.com) did try his Beta test Icon and it didn't seem to have that problem.

I know for sure this happens on my remote when I set the TV to IR code 0185 for a Pioneer TV.

Oops... my bad I mis-understood. Mine sends ether/or... not BOTH. I would say you got an odd-ball [defective] remote there. I don't think I have a spare of that style or I'd send it your way... but I'll take a look anyway.
