can x10 signals be sent through a surge protector?

Just wondering if the x10 signal can be sent through a surge protector.
Also, I've read up on the potential for x10 signals not being received due to the wiring in a particular house.
Just wondering what most people's experiences are - do most newer, larger homes work with x10, or do they
tend to have more problems compared to older homes?

Not well, if at all. The better the surge protector is the more it also tends to be an X10 signal sucker.

Barring a really bad wiring job in an old  or a new  home, the home wiring isn't likely to make a lot of difference. What can make a difference is what is in the home! When X10 was first marketed, there were no cell phones, laptops, home computers, plasma TVs (I think a 19" TV was considered large.), or a lot of other things we take for granted today. Everyone of those items can result in the X10 signal being reduced.

Bottom line: While we have far more options with X10 today, you can not expect it to be a "plug and play" anymore. The good news is that 99% of all possible hardware problems have solutions that have been already discovered.
