problem with my xpcp repeater module
« on: July 24, 2009, 05:29:31 PM »

i hook up my repeater to the split 240 line, and still some modules not working,i have a weird electronic box set up,one is 240 split and have another circuit beaker to my other side of the house.i have a mobile home with main panel and power meter outside, witch i cant touch, and have 2 panels one on side of my double mobile home and another one the other side 120 volt, now when i look at the wiring it seems they are using seperate beaker for 220v ac unit and tapping of it to get 120 volt for my other panel,it seems that anything hook up to that pnel doesnt work
can i install 2 xpcp repeater modules, one for the spilt 240 line and one for ac 240 line ,so the signal will pass to the 120 line side
also heard maybe a capactor across the 240 line might work

You installed it in the box with the 220 volt wires correct?

You are sure you have the couplers Line Inputs connected to the 220 volts and both of the neutral screws are on the neutral?
I would stay away from a simple capacitor between the phases as it coupled both noise and X10 signals between the phases. The XPCP is tuned so only signals and maybe noise on the X10 line signal frequency will be passed to the other phase.

You may have noise makers or signal suckers in your home that can be a problem.

Also the XPCP is not a repeater as it has no signal processing to send a strong signal back to the other phase. It is a coupler only. That means what ever the signal strength is at the coupler. That is passed to the other phase. So if your controller is outputting 5 volts and 4 volts is lost in the wiring to the coupler. Only 1 volt is coupled to the other phase.

Have you tried things like disconnecting electronic devices to see if it helps. Turning them off but not disconnecting them will not eliminate them from being suspect.

Jeff Volp has a great set of troubleshooting tutorials. You may want to look at.

i tried all that before and still no luck, there are two 220 volt lines comming from the main and i cant hook up the repeater to the main, only the panels at my house ,all wires are correct
can i add a second repeater on the other 220v line,
when i look at the main it has 2 circuit breakers one 100 amp and one 60 amp both 220 volts,40 amp line is connected to a 220v A/C witch i removed and one leg of the 220v is connected to another panel
