Wiring Marmitek TWM4 transmitter
« on: October 24, 2009, 11:24:53 AM »

I am planning to use a Marmitek TWM4 transmitter to run four different dimming circuits via LM12 dimmers.

I am not sure what the difference is between the first circuit and the other three.  The manual seems to suggest that the transmitter will control one circuit and the other three can send information to dimming modules (or appliance modules etc.).  Does the TWM4 have a dimmer incorporated in it?  If not what is the difference in wiring terms between the four addresses?

I'm sure it's obvious but the manual does not make it clear.

Thanks for your help

Hello Duncan,

Welcome to the forum.

Be advised that this forum is based in the States.  As a result, we do not have hands on experience with the Marmitek modules themselves.  We do have experience with similar modules distributed here and background on the X10 protocol.

I looked through the TWM4 manual.  This is a very capable little device (similar to some of our leviton modules in the states).

The TWM4 is a transmitter only.  It cannot be direct wired to a load, and requires a load control (like the LM12) to supply current to load devices.  Page 8 of the manual shows the transmitter connected to one mechanical switch (I believe this is what you we referring to).  In fact, the device can be connected to up to 4 mechanical switches (momentary contacts or standard) using the Blue (1), Orange (2), Red (3), and Yellow (4) input wires.

The following pdf goes into a bit more detail on the input switch combinations that can be used with the TWM4: Marmitek TWM4 Folder

Note:
The Marmitek web page appears to imply that this device is a RF transmitter - " * Communication of the transmitters/controllers to the dimmers/switch modules goes via a transceiver. See the complete series of transceivers here"

I believe this is an error.  This device appears to communicate through the powerline only (consistent with our transmitter modules in the States).  A transceiver should not be required for this device.

Hope this helps.  Enjoy,
Boiler

Hi Boiler

Thanks for your quick reply - and thanks for taking the trouble to look at the Marmitek manual.

Yes, I agree with your conclusions.  I was a little confused because the manual seems to differentiate between the first connection and the other three.  I assume therefore that they are all the same and that they merely transmit commands to other modules of a corresponding address.  All four operate in exactly the same way and are interchangeable?

By the way, I have a CM15PRO computer interface which, I believe is not two way.  I am having problems running action groups through Indigo which have been initiated by an X10 command from elsewhere.  Can you recommend a two way interface which would do the job?

Many thanks

The CM15 (ActiveHome Pro) is a 2-way device.
Not being a Mac/Indigo user I don't know how completely it's supported by Indigo, but if that software is worth its salt one would expect that it can receive as well as send X10 powerline signals from/to the CM15.  (I suspect that it doesn't support storing timers and macros in the CM15's EEPROM memory.)

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Thanks Charles

To avoid thread creep, I have started a new thread with a few questions:

Any help you could give would be much valued.
