Battery Remotes Stopped Working Abruptly
« on: November 25, 2009, 08:54:07 PM »

Hello. My problem is that suddenly ALL my battery operated remotes won't work. The plug-in kind (mini timer, mini controller) work fine! I replaced the transceiver but the problem persists.

Right before this problem occurred, I did plug in a lamp (with no lamp module) into a combination outlet-light switch receptacle where the overhead light has ceased to work long ago.

Could there be a short in the wiring that caused this? Is there anything I can do to correct this so that I can use the remotes again?

Thanks!

No, a short in the wiring won't cause your RF remotes to quit working unless the short is in the outlet the transceiver in plugged in to and is dead.
Plug your new tranceiver into the the same outlet your working mini controller or timer are plugged in to. Do the remotes work then?

First, unplug that lamp and see if things work then.

Second, are you sure the House Code on the transceiver is set the same as the old one?  Even if it is, you might try switching it to a different code and back just in case the switch contacts for the House Code setting have gone a little funky.

In the real world, the only constant is change.

I would also say. Try it with the added light disconnected. It could be a signal sucker or a large noise generator. Masking the transceivers signal.

Thank you all. I tried all the suggestions. I have unplugged the last light and won't use it again, at least during this testing.

I had to fool around with the on/off buttons to get the first transceiver to work on the same line as the plug in remotes; all seemed to work fine so I tried the second transceiver. The second transceiver was not quite on the correct house code, so I fixed that and all worked fine so I put the second receiver back in the original spot.

But now I am even more confused. Here is the scoop:

I had Lamp modules on code 1, 2 and 6; all on different outlets.
Codes 2, 4 and 5 were all on the same outlet - two lamps plugged into appliance modules and one chime.

For a few minutes, all worked, even with the battery remotes. But then, #1 Lamp module stopped responding even with the plug in remotes. So I switched it to an appliance module. That worked fine with all remotes. But then #2 Lamp would not react to #2 controls, but reacted fine to #1 and #6 signals!

I unplugged the transceiver overnight and will try more tests tomorrow.
