Status update from modules
« on: November 02, 2009, 12:10:17 AM »

It would have been really good if X10 would have had a two way setup so that when you turned on a light via light switch Active home would recognize it and show the light switch on the computer screen on instead of off.  Would that be too much of a problem to have done?

Only down big down fall I have seen.

A complete redesign of the modules to add a power line transmitter to them.

X10 at one time had a few two way modules. LM14A Lamp and AM14A Appliance. Now discontinued.

There are two way modules made by other manufacturers, but a a much higher cost than X10's.

One Smarthome Insteon wall switch that can have a X10 address added to it is $46.00. They handle bright and dim commands differently; when locally set with their local paddle; sending data  back on the power line for the controller to receive. Their Icon version slightly less in price.

I think a workable solution is to use XPFM or XPDF to drive the devices and control them from XPT or other controllers. I don't have much experience with the ActiveHome software so I couldn't tell you for sure if that works....

Leviton also makes X10 compatible switches that transmit status.  But, they aren't cheap.

What are the model numbers that are available from Leviton. I thought they discontinued their x10 line.

A quick Google search yields:

HCM06-1TW - 600W 2-way dimmer switch
HCM10-1TW - 1000W 2-way dimmer switch
HCS08-1TW - 1000W / 8A 2-way relay switch for fluorescent & magnetic low-voltage lighting

The best price I saw was from Fruit Ridge Tools (an eBay seller).
