W800USB.......HELP!
« on: December 19, 2009, 11:39:56 AM »

I installed the program for the W800USB. Under hardware the system shows to be working, however I can't figure out what to do from there. How can I manage the program?

Thanks,

Andy

You installed the Demo program from WGL and want to know how to manage it or are you talking about the USB drives you downloaded?
If it is the Demo Program:
Try opening the Demo program from the Desktop Icon it installed.
Pick the Virtual Com port the W800USB installed
Now when you send an X10 RF signal from a remote or motion sensor. You should see the data as it was decoded.

The WGL W800USB outputs raw data and needs a program that understands the raw data.

I don't believe any of the X10 programs support the W800 serial or USB versions.

Are you maybe using a different automation software that can use the W800 series units?

I bought the system and installed it. I don't see what I saw in the demo (a window with switch codes).

Brian:

This is what the Web site reads:

The W800 family of RF receivers are designed to receive X10 RF signals generated from X10 products: Palm Pad remotes, key chain remotes, Hawkeye motion detectors, and many, many other X10 RF devices.

The W800 receives:

All 256 house/unit code addresses

All regular X10 RF commands (on, off, dim, brighten, etc.)

Extended 32 bit RF commands, such as those transmitted by X10's “Entertainment Anywhere” remotes and X10 security modules such as the DS10.

Yes and it then sends the raw data to the USB port that the W800USB driver makes it look like a serial port.
This raw data has to be processed by a running program.
What program do you want to use as most do not understand the raw data.
I don't think any X10 programs understand this data.

X10 Home Automation. Active Home Professional to turn lights on and off.

AHP has no way to use a W800RF or W800USB; that I know of.  As it can not process the raw data it sends to the computer.

Many here have used the WGL V572A as an all House Code Tranceiver. It has great range and puts the received X10 commands on the power line. It does not process extended commands.

The V572RF32 adds the mapping of up to 32 extended message devices like the DM10 Security Motion sensor to a standard X10 address.

The W800RF and W800USB are supported by HCA and HomeSeer software for PCs and I have seen Indigo for the Macintosh supports them also. I did find a list of more software that supports the W800USB and AHP was not on the list.

Do you have any of the AHP plugins like On Alert, Smart Macros?
