VCR Commander II Learning
« on: January 18, 2010, 11:47:23 AM »

Does anyone know if you can program the VCR Commander II to send 3 IR codes out instead of 2?  The instructions seem to say it can send up to 3 ir signals, but they only talk about programing the record and stop buttons.  I need to send record, input and stop.  Any way to do this?

The UX23A "VCR Commander II" can only "learn" the IR codes for those two buttons.  It's limited to two because they are actuated by On and Off RF signals, typically from an X10 Motion sensor.

The UX23A does however have built-in tables of IR codes for almost all buttons on a typical remote which can be actuated by specialized RF signals sent by a CM15A or Firecracker device, and the three IR emitters on the cable shipped with the unit can then control specific models of up to three different TV, VCR, DVD, Cable, or Satellite appliances.  Unfortunately the tables are in firmware which has never been updated so may not include the codes for newer appliance models.

Tuicemen's "PC Companion" software for Windows:

has an optional plug-in to operate this feature of the UX23A.

For Linux, Unix, and Mac OS X users, the program LUX23 is a front end for Heyu which can operate this feature of the UX23A via a CM17A Firecracker:

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.
