Newbie - Motion Sensors and Lights
« on: January 25, 2010, 01:52:37 PM »

Right now I m using 2 motion sensors and two lights....1 motion sensor for each light....what is the optimal house code and unit code for each...right now I have it set as the following

Light 1 = A1
Motion 1 = A1
Light 2 = A2
Motion 2 = A2

Is this the way I should setup future fixtures....or am I doing something wrong...I read that motion sensors should be on different house codes...but not sure why

THanks for the help

Depends on if you want the motion sensors to trigger a macro that controls the lights or the motion sensors directly control the lights.
I see one problem in you example. A1 Motion sensor has a dusk dawn feature that uses A2. It is going to turn on and off the A2 light at dusk and dawn.

I want the motion sensors to directly turn on and off the lights

What variety motion sensor are you using?

What transceiver (CM15A, TM751 ...) are you using to to receive the RF signal from the sensor which turns the lights on?

I have Ms14A's Im using a CM15a hooked to my computer I pretty much are just using AHP to have lights turn on when I walk passed motion sensors...1 light for 1 motion sensor

You don't NEED to use AHP for this. Just set the motion sensor and corresponding light to the same HC/UC and when motion is sensed, the light goes on! You can program the duration that the light stays on in the motion sensor.

Just make sure you leave the +1 unit code open. (If your motion sensor/light is on A1, then leave A2 unused.) This is because the A1 motion sensor has a dusk/dawn feature that will turn on the A2 light when it is dark.

jtykal,

I'm also a newbie with a motion sensor turning on/off a light.  I've done it two ways.

1) Using the MS14a, TM751 and a lamp module, motion turns the light on and the MS14a setting turns the light off.  The MS14a sends the rf signals to the TM751 and it in turn sends the powerline signals to the lamp module.

2) Using AHP, CM15a, MS14a and a lamp module. Motion/absence of motion sends the rf signals to the CM15a, the macros run and the CM15a sends signals to the lamp module.

Is there a way to do it without some sort of rf signal transceiver between the motion sensor and the lamp?

Thanks,

Mel

Hi,

Since the wireless motion sensor sends RF only, then you need a device like the CM15A, TM751, or other transceiver to receive, convert, and deliver the signal over the powerline to the lamp module.

Put it another way, the wireless motions sensor signal is RF; the lamp module works on powerline signals.  In order for the lamp module to respond and be activated by the sensor, you need to change the signal from RF to powerline.  The transceiver accomplishes that task for you.
