Help with IR-543
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:50:17 PM »

Hello,
I purchased an IR-543, and plan on using a Harmony remote to have it turn the lights on and off in my living room.  The ir543 works fine with the lamp module I purchased, but it doesn't work correctly with 2 other devices.  For testing purposes, I've bypassed using the remote, and I'm using the "All Lights On" & "All Units Off" buttons on the IR-543.

The 2 units it doesn't work with are the RTM75 (transceiver module), and the AM486 (appliance/CFL friendly module).

With the RTM75, I get absolutely no response from the IR-543.

With the AM486, I'm able to turn off the lamp, but I can not turn it back on.

Both of these devices work as expected with the keychain I received with the RTM75.

I have tried changing the house code, but that does nothing.  I have also tried plugging the IR543 into the same outlet as the modules, and that also does nothing.

I have spent the better part of 4 hours browsing this forum, but haven't found an answer.  Some threads I've read suggest you can have the AM486 work nice with the IR543.  I've tried both CFL & incandescent bulbs, but I get the same results.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Edit: I'm realizing now I probably should have posted this in another section.  My apologies, I didn't realize the multitude of sections since I was strictly using the search function.

AM
The RTM75 only responds to RF signals such as the key chain remote, motion sensors, Palm Pad, etc. It does not respond to PLC commands (power line). You can not use the IR543 to control the outlet on the RTM75.

The AM486 should always work nice with the IR543. However you can not turn ON an Appliance Module with the "All Lights On" button on the IR543. You will be able to turn it OFF with the "All Units Off" button. You should be able to control the AM486 correctly if you use the number keys on the IR543.

You say true, I say thank you.

I noticed the "lights" & "units" as I was typing it out, and thought that might be related to the issue.  I guess I'm just not used to the X10 lingo yet.  The IR543 now correctly turns on the appliance module when I hit the "Light 2" Function.  Since there isn't an "appliance 2" button, I incorrectly assumed  "lights" and "units" were interchangeable and that the "all lights on" button would work.

I figured the RTM75 wouldn't work with the IR543, and I don't have a problem with that.  My original intention was to put that module in the basement using it strictly for the key chain access.

Thanks again for your help.  This forum is very informative, I already have a few other ideas of things to do around the house just while looking for this answer!
