Took a chance on a $1 webcam
« on: March 21, 2010, 12:29:47 PM »

...This isn't an X10 cam at all, but I can use a few Webcams as part of my personal home automation project,

Anyway - I *stumbled* across these on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/10-0MP-USB-Webcam-Web-Cam-Camera-PC-Laptop-Vista-Mic_W0QQitemZ130371963675QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDigital_Cameras?hash=item1e5ac64b1b#ht_2123wt_958

$1 plus $5 shipping.
And took a chance.

3 1/2 weeks latr...  B:(  it arrived.

I'll be doggone...
It works!
No driver needed on XP - plug it in and go.
No driver needed on my Ubuntu 9.1 Linux - plug it in and go..

Haven't tried Vista yet - but if it worked on XP, I expect it to be fine.

Anyway - thought I'd share my surprise.

The one downside I can see is that it's low-light performance is less than the $29 webcam I have.
Maybe I'll pull it apart and see if there's an IR filter in it.
