VK79A to feed video to a website
« on: March 19, 2010, 12:51:08 PM »

a friend has purchased a VK79A wireless video camera and we want to set it up to record a bird's nest outside.  we have a pole on which to mount the camera at the correct height, and we're within range of his wi-fi.  how can we set this up to send the video to be displayed on another website - is there a dedicated ip address with this model of camera?  if not, how could i send that video stream so it could be displayed in an iframe on another site? thanks! p.s. we'd like the video stream to be 24/7 - can we do this when his computer is shut down there?

I think what you are thinking of is an IP camera.  They are IP devices in themselves.

X10 cameras, including the VK79A (Sentinel) are analog video devices.

In order to get this video to the internet, you would need to capture the analog video into a computer, that is "on".  X10's device to do this is the VA12A.  Then you could route the video via IP.

I use a 3rd party video capture card, and VNC to remotely view that computer...  Not exactly what you describe.  Again, I believe you are describing an IP camera.

Sorry. I used a vr31a wirless audio/video receiver connected to a usb cctv input on my computer. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260561818914&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Once you get that up and running you simply register on camstreams.com , download the program they email you and start streaming.

Sometimes I forget that others cannot see what I am seeing sitting in front of me.  Forgive me.  ;-)
