Transmitting Dimming Through Macros
« on: April 23, 2010, 03:35:52 PM »

I may have some wrong thinking here.

I have a palmpad set to HC=M to call macros to control lights and other items on other HCs.  M-1 can call lights L-1, and M-2 can call lights K-5, for instance.  That way, I can have a “top sixteen” controller, M, that can access all other HCs all over the house.

Yes, I pay a penalty on speed.  I call this my House Code Transformer.

I always thought I could not dim, because if macro M-1 calls light L-1, then the dim commands for M-1 really don’t control a device.

But I recently called one of these macros and accidentally pressed the dim key on the remote, and the L-1 dimmed.

I now believe that the dim command works on the last HC ON transmitted.  So if M-1 calls L-1 ON, then dim commands will work, because L-1 was the last code called.

This could be an issue.  If I turn on L-1, and one minute later the wife turns on K-5 in another room (and I don’t know it), and two minutes later I decide to dim my light and hit the dim key, I will dim her last sent K-5 device.

I think that’s why if you want to dim your light, you always sent the ON command first, even if the device is already ON so you will be dimming the right thing.

Can anyone confirm or correct my thinking?

I have been thinking about doing this with a maxi controller, but it seems to error prone.

I use Heyu, but right now I have C1 control both C2 and C3 on a palmpad, however i have invested in some cheap internet tablets for the bedroom nighstands and common area end tables that will take away all this confusion.

I could probably clean these up a bit:

ALIAS living_room_lights C1 LM465-1 # Light,Living Room
ALIAS recliner_lamp C2 LM465-1 # Light,Living Room
ALIAS corner_lamp C3 LM465-1 # Light,Living Room

SCRIPT living_room_lights on anysrc :: heyu on C2,3
SCRIPT living_room_lights off anysrc :: heyu off C2,3
SCRIPT living_room_lights dim anysrc :: heyu dim C2,3 3
SCRIPT living_room_lights bright anysrc :: heyu bright C2,3 3

anyway If you invested in a Nokia internet tablet like I have and run your HA software either as a webapp or through rdp rdesktop then you won't have to map:

i confirm your thinking

regardless of the controller used, the last HC who was sent will always  respond if it`s a dim/bright command so you have to send the ON command always before the dim .one to make sure the right module respond.

I don`t think it`s an issue, just a consequence of life !!!

hope it will help
