New and Frustrated.
« on: November 21, 2010, 06:33:57 AM »

Hi,
I'm new to AHP and X10:
I installed two WS12A and they work correctly from the switch and remote[KR19A]
The AHP display on my computer reflects the commands when I use the KR19A, but the AHP can't control WS12A.
I have 1 TM751 and it works with AHP and KR19A.
I've searched this site for help on this issue I was timed out!
Can some help?
Thank you.

Do you have the AHP kit that includes the CM15A Interface or the CM19A interface?
Since you mentioned the TM751. I am fairly sure your is with the CM19A but would like to verify that.

If you have a CM19A it has to send an RF command to the TM751 just like the KR19A does.
It is possible the receiver part of the CM19A received the KR19As command and the TM751 did also. So the AHP screen changed and the WS12A changed to the on or off command sent.
Though when AHP sends an RF command to the TM751 it is not reaching it and the WS12A does not change state.

Hi Brian: I have the AHP kit that includes the CM15A Interface. I bought the package from X-10 last week.

Thank you.

OK thanks for the update on your equipment.

Is there a reason you are using a TM751? Like maybe a RF device is not being received by the CM15A. The TM751 is not polite so in some situations with an RF command processed by both the CM15A and TM751 can step on each other.

I can think of a few things you maybe having a problem with. Power line noise or opposite phase issues with the CM15As location and the WS12A.
Also X10 rec comends calling the new WS12A with soft start a LM14A.

I would try calling one of the switches a LM14A and see if it changes anything.

I use the TM751 to control a heater. I just unplugged it and nothing works. Not even the KR19A Remote.  AHP still will not control the WS12A.  Plugged it back in and AHP and KR19A control the heater.
I tried calling the new WS12A  a LM14A, that did not work.

I will try the links you provided now.

Thank you.

That could be a few things.

I am thinking you have a power line signal issue to the WS12A modules. The CM15A is sending the signals on the power line but the modules are not receiving them.

The KR19A not working with the CM15A alone could be. The CM15A is not receiving the RF signal from the KR19A as they are not known for great reception. We have antenna mod threads on this subject. Or the CM15A is receiving the signal and the power line signals are again not reaching the WS12A modules. You may want to look in the Activity Monitor screen and see if the KR19As RF is being received.

You may also want to go into the AHP Tools Tab. Hardware Configuration and make sure the House Code you are using with the KR19A is set to be transceived.

The Activity Monitor screen shows signals from KR19A in green. Signals from AHP are in red though yet the "picture" of the switch reacts in AHP.
Eveything works fine with KR19A. All the Ws12A's do not work with AHP, yet the screen reacts to commands given.
Thank you.

As a short test. You may want to unplug the CM15A from the AC outlet. Move the TM751 to where the CM15A was and then see if the KR19A will control the WS12As. This would give a rough test of the communications from the outlet to the switches.

I put a TM751 in the other end of the house and AHP controlled it just fine. I can't get AHP to control the WS12a's and it's frustrating!

I plugged CM15A into a different outlet and now WS12A works in the same room, but not in the kitchen.
Thank you for all your help.

Sounds to me you have a phase problem.  Most houses get 220 volts from the electricity feed which is split to 2 phases of 110 volts.  X10 signals can't cross the phases without some kind of phase coupler.

Do a search here for "phase couplers" they run the gamut from simple capacitors mounted in a electric stove outlet to plug-in units to units that are mounted the circuit breaker panel.

Hi Dan: I turned on the 220V range and WS12A worked!
Can you recommend a soluton? Do you know of a simple phase coupler?
Thank you.

If you had a chance to look at some of the troubleshooting data. You may have read about passive couplers not always being 100% in some installations.
I am glad you found your problem is opposite phase issues.
You still may have pockets of dead spots where noise filters maybe needed.

If you have a three pin dryer outlet. Smarthome has a plug in module.

They seemed to have discontinued the four pin version.
If you can do a hard wired one into the breaker box.
There is the X10Pro XPCP
Smarthome also has a few wired in ones.

Many EBay X10 dealers also have a whole range of couplers and repeaters.

Thank you for all your help.
