Over head door contact
« on: February 05, 2011, 09:03:52 AM »

I live in a condo, on the second floor. I have a private garage and thet didnt run security wire from my garage to my condo.  I want to have door contact on my garage door that i will connect to a plugin x10 device that will transmit an on-off signal thru the power line, Im out of range for rf transmiter.  The plugin x10 should toggle a lamp.

Any ideas $

The X10 PF284 or X10Pro PSC01 PowerFlash modules can send an X10 On and Off power line signal with a contact closure and opening. They can also be triggered by a low voltage AC or DC voltage.

Depending on the number of units in the condo even PLC maybe out of the question!  :(
You'll need to do some experimenting to see if you can even get a signal over the powerline to the garage.

You maybe able to do a rough test.
If you can put a lamp module where you want it and have a power line controller you can connet to an outlet in the garage. You could see if the module can be controlled from the garage.

Yes that is what i wanted to do , thanks all for your inputs.

I have a MS14A, can i do something with it if i connect a door contact in the circuit ? I mean can it trigger a lamp module in the garage then the lamp module transmit a signal thru power line ??

I have seen a modification to add a switch trigger to a motion sensor.
http://www.idobartana.com/hakb/index.htm

The motion sensor sends an RF signal. So it would have to reach a transceiver or CM15A in the living area or one installed in the garage.
To trigger a Lamp Module in the garage. A transceiver would be needed as it can not control a Lamp Module directly. Also turning on a Lamp Module in the garage will not have it send a power line signal back to the living area.
