Strange SC1200 Powerhorn Problem
« on: April 18, 2011, 10:10:49 AM »

SC1200 upgrade from previous X10 system and all is well with one exception. The powerhorn works fine when alarm is tripped. It is set as per instruction manual.

The problem is; when alarm is set, the powerhorn (only) sounds off with what seems to be one cycle and stops. I need some possible solutions to this as I don't want to awaken the neighbors if I set the system late at night.

I contacted X10 and other than a courtesy email, haven't heard from them again.

Will someone please give some clues as to what I should check next?

Thanks,

Tell us the Date Code from the PowerHorn Speaker.
Should be a round white sticker on the back. Two numbers then a Letter and two more numbers. Like 09A03
That unfortunately maybe correct for your date code.

I have some old 2004-2005 versions that are 100% OK.
I have a 2009 that does exactly what yours does.
I also have two 2010 versions that do not sound on an arm, but when triggered. Sound for four Hi/Low Tones then stop for ten seconds then again sound for four Hi/Low Tones. Sequence just keep cycling until disarmed.

Date code for Powerhorn is 08G31.

House/unit code used is E/10, won't work on any other H/U code combination that I've tried so far.

vlong in the thread link I gave you also had a 08G31 and it did what you are seeing.

I swapped him an older 2005 unit for his 09A03.
I then verified the 09A03 does sound on an arm and the one I sent him did not sound on an arm.

A newer date code unit maybe better. Even if it sounds four Hi/Low Tones then pauses ten seconds and then four more Hi/Low Tones.
I have not seen anything on a possible fix added to 2011 units. If there was any.

The Powerhorn goes through a high/low-high/low and quite. I consider this a one cycle tone.

Thanks for the info. I won't give up yet. Unless some changes have been made in the Ph circuits, they should all display the same results in my opinion.

Thanks for all the info.

OH yes there are major changes.
My older 2005 units are the old design.
The later ones are completely redesigned with all new parts.
I can verify the 2009 I have has a different firmware in it than the 2010 ones.
They all act differently with the SC1200A Console.
The older ones are also noticeably louder than the later revision ones.
