SS13A won't control my AM486
« on: May 11, 2011, 09:50:11 AM »

I just got a wireless wall switch, SS13A and a 3pin applicance module, AM486... and I can't get the appliance module to change state when using the on/off of the RF switch. Is there an incompatibility with these two devices?

I have tried changing the module's code on both devices and I have plugged the appliance module into a simple lamp and into the device I want to control, a low power pump. In both cases the appliance is always on.

Seems like I must be missing something simple...

Thanks for any help,
Kim

No, they should work if everything has House Code, Unit Codes set properly. What are you using as a transceiver to change the RF signal from the SS13 to a PLC signal that the AM486 can receive? TM751? RR501? CM15A?

The SS13A send an X10 RF command.
The AM486 can not receive RF commands. Only power line commands.
Do you have a X10 RF to Power Line Tranceiver? If not that is the problem.
RR501 is better or the TM751?

YES!.  If you sort through the posts of my esteemed friends, you'll start to see the solution, but to a layman to X10 terms, it's a bit confusing.

Here's the low down:

Most x10 modules communicate via PLC, which is a series of pulses sent on the home's wiring.  The SS13 sent out a radio signal.

You'll need a transceiver to relay the radio signal to the powerlines, be it a TM751 (good), or a RR501 (better), or a security system from x10 (more than what you need), or the CM15A (also a computer interface).
