MS16a - Tuff little buggers.
« on: May 09, 2011, 11:55:56 PM »

I had an MS16 on my back deck with it's face exposed to the rock-y moun-tain win-ters and scorching afternoon sun for 3 or 4 years but has become intermittent and unreliable so it will be replaced just as soon as the new one arrives.

When I put it up I never thought it would make it 6 months out there.

I'm still using the CM15A I got in 2005!!!  Still going strong. When it hits 15 years I suspect I'll replace it.

Well since this is a MS16 thread I will piggyback a question.
I have an outside MS16 that seems to have lost IR sensitivity.
It is now almost completely oblivious to any warm body movement.
Unit is in protected location (no rain, snow etc.) on an unenclosed front porch.
It does not get direct sun.
No plants, trees, etc. in the field of vision.
Postion and location of the unit has not changed.
There is no dirt, dust , spider webs, leaves, etc etc etc. outside or inside the unit.
New batteries...twice.

I can't see the PIR sensor's silicon substrate changing do to aging, so wonder if op-amp bias has changed due to resistor aging.

I'm just going to replace the unit with a new one. Not worth trying to troubleshoot, but just wonder if anyone else has had similar issue?

Wow. its amazing, and also you have very good plane for it. Its running from 2005 and still going nice and strong. Surely you were very caring about it.
