Wall switch controller recommendations?
« on: May 09, 2011, 01:38:46 PM »

I need to use wall switches that are "friendly" to those used to using conventional switches.  I'm using a couple XP4's but I'm not happy with them, the small buttons don't have a good feel, are near impossible to label, and their small size makes them a bit unfriendly IMHO.  If I can't find anything else I'll probably switch to XP2's which no-doubt have the same feel.

A wired version of the SS14A that could fit into a Decora plate would be ideal, though that probably isn't an option.

The X10 Leviton Decora style switches look good however I need to get at least 2 switches per gang.

Any recommendations?  I'm guessing this ground has been tread many times before.

Have you looked at the Insteon Keypadlinc?
I use the 8 button one for setting scenes in my kitchen and love it.
Mine transmits X10 signals no problem,  but doesn't always receive them ( I may need to add a couple filters to my system)

The keypadlink buttons look too small to effectively label, however I found that Leviton makes keypads with plastic covers that can easily be labeled.
I'm guessing they're not compatible with the XPT and I need to buy the Leviton 16400 controller since the 16400 needs to receive commands in order to manage the LEDs.

Due to the Wife Appreciation Factor I'm sticking with the XP4.  She contends any kind of labeling looks hokey, LEDs are definitely out, and the unassuming XP4 is the best looking of them all.    Naturally she's right (she is the wife).   Icing on the cake is the XP4+XPT is darned cheap compared to the others and has been fully reliable.
