winows speech problem with bvc
« on: September 19, 2011, 05:28:32 PM »

Please help
I am running windows 7 64x on a new emachines
3.2 ghz dual core
3 gig ram

Got the full version bvc and mic set up perfect(believe it or not)bvc works great hears all my commands and responds great BUT (of course there is a but)  >*<
The problem i am having is that at the same time bvc is hearing me so is windows speech recognition and it is interpreting my commands as windows commands such as "open notebook" move" so on and so on.
Wouldn't be a big deal except it is actually acting on the commands and really messing things up in windows.
I have searched the forums for days now and can't seem to find anything (I am sure it's there I just can't find it.My search skills are really lacking)
Hopefully there is some way to keep windows speech from listening and let bvc listen.Windows speech opens on it's own every time that I open bvc. I assume this is normal.
Thanks in advance for any help I can get :)%

as far as I have seen in windows 7 there is a con flict with bvc and windows speech recognition.  You will see that it works much better with xp then it does win 7  you might want to look into Ihouse it works with win 7 and there is no conflict

iHouse is win 7 64 bit  compatible I run it on 64 bit.
I added the code so it works separate from windows 7 and vista VR.
You'll need the latest build 0.9.6.3
I also relayed info to Bill so BVC could be made to work with Vista and Windows 7 so it should just be a mater of time untill he adds this to BVC.
In the mean time give ihouse a go. It doesn't utilize facesets but there are a couple of ways you can use them if you wish! Triggering PCC or BVC to do the talking is one way.
I may add code for this at some point  ::) :'

OK thanks  I will give it a go.
But would really like to see bvc with the code to work independent of windows vr :)%
I just got bvc figured out and hate to have to learn another program. B:(
Hopefully bill will get the time to mod bvc pretty soon.

Unlike me, Bill doesn't have alot of free time.
However if all users with this issue were to drop Bill an email explaining the need he may see the need to place this at the top of the priority list. ;)
More and more users are updating their PCs and it is next to imposible to find a new one with XP installed.

I agree I use I house and BVC.  I am currently running 4 pcs for my ha set up 2 strictly for ha and 2 that have other functions as well.  Only one of mine is running xp anymore and I would be awesome to use the full functions of bvc on the windows7 pc's.  It would also be nice if bvc would incorporate networking.

I'm still looking for a solution that would allow BVC and Windows to share.  But, yes, meanwhile, I should at least write in the code to make BVC hog the speech recognition resources so Windows stops butting in.   >*<

In the real world, the only constant is change.

When I'm online you can find me in the Home Automation Chat Room!

If you want to use Windows VR it still will work you just turn it on.
Not using the shared recognition option doesn't stop other programs using it from working.
Or you could code the option in BVC so the end user could decide if they wished to use shared recognition or not. ;)
