I recently bought a SC1200 Alarm System. I have a few extra DS10A Door/Window sensors and would like to put on on the garage door to know whether it is open or closed. Is it possible to do this, without having the alarm go off if the door is opened? I don't really want this to be part of the security system, just a nice to know if the door was open or closed.

I don't think so. This would work though:

Or if you already have parts, I use an MS13A, TM751, and a lamp module, to monitor mine. Just turns on a lamp when the door is opened, or  if there is any motion in the garage. Turns it back off two minutes later.

If you have AHP with On Alert. You can add it to AHP and answer the install question, as not registered to a security console.
One thing. Security Sensors check in every few hours.
With its present state. Like opened with delay will be indicated in the message. If it is open and the mode switch is set to Max.

The DS10As would most certainly work.  You need the onalert plugin though I believe.  Search for garage door threads from DaveX10L, he has done this.  I myself use 2 powerflash modules, one for door up sensing and one for door down sensing.  I have not used any DS10As in my setup as of yet.
