Media Library being updated
What is this doing? Pops up at least several times during bootup.

It is updating( reading the index file) for  the media files (movies,clips,photos,audio files) which have been added ,.deleted ,etc.

Length of time depends on the siaze of these files and how fast the media is that theya re stored on. Internal memory is the fastest ,next is Micro SD card (if added) and SD cards and thum drives ( USB) can vary greatly in thier speed depending on thier class. Inexpensive ones tend to be slow while high speed ones tend to be expensive.
