I have a number of these chargers for items that came without a charger or when one burned out. An alternative also would be a mobil charger that can be pluged into the wall through a car adapter for A/C have those too.

The world is full of nonimal 5V / DC powered devices and alternate chargers for them however  most such alternate chargers supply less than 1A. Most are in the 500 to 700 mA range(0.5 - 0.7A range). The AirPad power supply is 2 A and the Air Pad consumes a lot of juice based on my testing.  If the AP battery is fully charged it still requires approx. 300 mA just to operate and maintain the batteries charge. If the AP battery is at 70% it can take well over 1A (1,000 mA) to recharge the battery.

Some test results here.

The charger that comes with the Airpad is 5 volts DC, 1000ma of current. Radio Shack sells a charger that that is  1000ma @ 5vdc and a 2.5A @5vdc both units work and come with the special tip to insert into the Airpad tablet. Just pay special attention that the + is on tip side. This is written on the tip that attaches to the wire from the power supply. I keep one at my work site and the original power supply that came with the Airpad at home.

The OEM charger / power supply is clearly marked as 2000 mA which is 2Amps..  I have conduted many test and it takes well over 1A  to charge the AP if the battery is at or below 50% and it is being used to view video at the same time.

FWIW I have tested what I consider marginal ( less than 2A) power supplies and they run way to hot.

Just so happens that I just let AP discharge down to 15% at which time I connected my battery powered alternate power source / test setup. Charging and viewing movie by way of NetFlix  1.22 amps. flowing into AP.

Not  trying to argue or suggest that some of them alternate chargrs will not work ,just pointing out their possible limitations. Even a 700 ma (0.7A) output one will be fine if battery is at 100% and it is left connected while AP is in use.

Dannykirk; Can you verify what your charger is marked.
If yours says 5 volts 1000 ma and everydayflyer's says 5 volts 2000 ma.
We would then know. At least two different power units are being supplied in the AirPad Kits.
