Outside Light on dim
« on: November 09, 2011, 06:43:55 PM »

I have recently purchased several X10 components.
Before trying to set up my new Active Home Pro software, I thought I would start with something simple.
I have two (120 Volt 100 Watt) flood lights on my house just outside my garage.
I have installed a "WS12A", a "WS14A Companion Switch" and a "TM751 Transceiver" (for use with a KR22A remote).
For the past several days, the components have worked just as they should.
Basically I depress either switch and the light begins dim and then increases to full intensity.
Tonight I tried to turn on the outside light and it will only come on DIM.
I have slid the the dimmer control switch (base of the WS12A) to the left and then back to the right.
No change in the light output.
QUESTION:
1. Could I have a defective switch?
2. Is there a reset capability?
3. Is it possible to over ride the DIMMER and just go to full power?

All the later wall switches have a Preset Dim feature. It sounds like you may have run into this feature.
Here is the Knowledgebase information on it.

Since the OP removed power with the power disconnect slide switch and still has the same problem, I wonder about it being the "Resume Dim" feature, I think it is a wall switch version of the "half cycle triacs" you had a rash of in Lamp Modules(?).

To Daryl21
1. Yes, it could be bad. Hold the toggle down, if it does not brighten or dim, it is bad.
2. Sliding the power disconnect switch should reset any DIM/BRIGHT memory. Or toggle the circuit breaker.
3. I don't know as I do not use AHP. "Extended commands" might (search forum).

I did miss the air gap disconnect being tried.  ???
I agree with dave w. If you can't manually bring it up to full brightness with the local paddle. It has a problem.
I would check the bulb itself and the connections as Murphy's Law seems to bite me all the time.  ;)

I have fixed the problem, thank you all for the replies.

SOLUTION:
1. I flipped the circuit breaker off for approximately 10 seconds.
2. I depressed the primary WS12A switch toggle. (Light cam on DIM again. Using the breaker as a reset did not help)
3. I depressed the primary WS12A switch toggle. (Light went out)
4. I depressed the primary WS12A switch toggle and held it for several seconds. (Light intensity increased to FULL)
5. I then tested with WS14A and the KR22A. (Everything is working)

Again, Thanks -:)

My mistake! Apologies to all! I *assumed* (yeah, I know) the "Resume Dim" memory was sustained by line voltage, because I have seen a WS12 I have in stairway, come back on at 100% after having the breaker off.

I just tested that switch by setting it dim and disconnected using the slide switch. Setting the slide switch back to "ON" and the light came back on at the previous dim setting. So there is some non-volatile  memory in the switch. So, I don't know how you reset it.
