Hi there. I just purchased an AirpadP 7", the sales department the following pre-purchase question:

( rick )I am looking at purchasing an AirpadP, however the X10 forums say that you can't get Apps if you live in Canada because the App stores aren't available there. Is that true? Should I hold back purchasing an Airpad?

Their answer was:

( Aneatra. ) we have to markets you can download on the airpad

However, I have tried both Amazon.com and Android Market with no success. Amazon tells me that it isn't available in my geographic location yet (Canada) and Android Market requires an Android based telephone number associated to the account. The AirpadP is a tablet with no phone capabilities that I know of. So I am unable to use either of them.

I did manage to get ahold of support on the chat section of X-10 website and I got the following answer to my same query:

So, I tried going to the website and selecting rooted, but the download fails every time. I was however able to download the .img file with my desktop computer.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Did I purchase a piece of technology that is useless in Canada? Help!

The image file X10 gave you is not for the AirPadP
It is for the original X10Airpad and used to update the rom.

Ok, that doesn't surprise me. So I've never owned an Android unit before and I'm at the bottom of the learning curve here. Where do I go from here? Where do I get this .img file so I can access an AppStore?

You should be able to go to the app store and get free apps you just can't buy them.

I got the answer back from X10. It isn't as simple and downloading apps when you're in Canada, the AppStores for Amazon aren't available here yet and Android Market wants to install apps on an Android Phone, not tablet. Here is the solution:

1. Register for an e-mail address or use a throw-away account. DO NOT USE your current email address tied to Amazon because entering fake information is grounds to have your account suspended.

2. Register for a new account on Amazon using the disposable email address. Again, DO NOT use your regular Amazon account or email address.

3. Enter information as if you were based in the U.S. Go to www.fakenamegenerator.com for help in this regard. Enter the name, address, phone number, and credit card number (Amex, Mastercard, Visa ).

4. Download the Amazon App Store apk to your phone.

5. Browse the Amazon App Store from your phone! You will not be able to access paid apps, but you can at least get the free apps that are exclusive to Amazon.
