Modules will turn off but not on using AHP
« on: December 13, 2011, 09:21:08 PM »

I have several modules that worked just fine for a long period of time.  If they are on, the automatic timers which run from the CM15A, no computer connected will turn off as they always have,  They just never turn on.  I fired up AHP with the CM15A connected to my computer, and trying to activate the modules thru the software switch icons, I still cannot turn on the modules, but I can turn them off.

Is the CM 15A defective?  I have even replaced all the modules with new ones on the walls, and still same problem.  These modules in question are 2-3way standard X10 wall modules, and 1-2way module.  The modules are not on the same circuit.  I have changed nothing yet the units stopped working.  I have changed the unit codes with still no change.

I really could use some advice.  I hate to order another CM15A and find the same problem again.

Thanks,

Terry

Any new modules are SoftStart which means that they ramp up slowly when turned on manually.    I presume if you have a CM15A then you must have AHP, what version?   All recent versions have two types of modules, Lamps, which are for SoftStart modules and Older Lamps (no SoftStart ) which are for older X10 modules.

Determine if you have Soft Start lamp modules and wall switches.
Also give us the version of AHP you are using.
As Dan mentioned. Depending on module style and AHP version. We should be able to find you an answer.

I would not even try and order a CM15A. As they are discontinued or out of stock depending on who you believe.
The CM19A and TM751 X10 calls a CM15K replacement is not close to a real CM15A.

I have a similar problem. I've been using my CM15a for years. I've had my modules all running flawlessly for years. Then for some reason I had to make an update to my CM15a programming so I installed AHP on my new computer, plugged in my CM15a and updated the programming, uploaded to the CM15a, unplugged it from the computer and plugged it back into the wall.
Now any macro that I have will no longer turn on a light. It will turn lights off, but not on.
For instance. If I have C1 on lamp 1 and C2 on lamp 2. I have a Macro C3 that runs an on command on C1 and C2 when the On button is pressed and off when the Off button is pressed.
It's worked this way for years.
But this is the first time I've messed with the programming with this version of the Active Home software. 3.318.
Needless to say, this is distressing....

The OP said that this happened before he changed any modules.  I too have the exact same issue.  Nothing was changed except downloading the software onto a new computer.  I'm beginning to think the software has a problem since the modules do turn off at the proper times but won't turn on as scheduled. >*<

This sounds EXACTLY like the SoftStart issue described above.
Older X10 modules (and compatible ones marketed under other brand names) did not include the SoftStart capability, and could not respond to those commands. Unfortunately, the model names didn't change when they added the SoftStart functions.
When the programmers added SoftStart functions to version 3.302, they made those the default for modules in the "Lamps" category, and created a separate category called "Old Lamps - no SoftStart" for the ones that did not have SoftStart capabilities.

Right-click, and edit your Lamp Modules (and dimming wall switches), and change them to the equivalent ones from the "Old Lamps - No SoftStart" category. That should get them working again.

I just took your advice regarding the soft start and it seems to work on the one module I tested.  I will proceed to check the rest and reprogram and post my results...I thank you -:)
