How to aAutomate old window air unit with no thermostat
« on: May 04, 2012, 05:53:35 AM »

I've been reading the forums and am not exactly sure how to go about doing this:
I have an old window air unit that works very well, but does not have a thermostat on it. I want to set it up to go off and on based on a set temperature.

I know I need the 20 amp heavy duty module based on the unit and plug in type. I believe I also need the Powerflash module to send the on/off signal.

I am stumped as to the thermostat portion. There is a thermostat setback, but I don't think I need that. Can you set it up with a regular thermostat that then triggers the powerflash? and if so, is there a plug in thermostat I can use? I'm not an electrician and don't want to mess with any wiring.

Thanks for any assistance!

I think I may have solved my problem...
Would the LuxPro Outlet thermostat work with the Powerflash module send the On/Off?

No the LuxPro Outlet Thermostat will not work with a Powerflash.
It is a stand alone unit then can be set to control the temperature the unit goes On. With the ability to chose times and days for different temperatures you want.
It also has a outlet on it for the airconditioner to plug in to directly. Looks like it has a 15 amp outlet on it.

If you want to use a heavy duty appliance module and PowerFlash. Get a battery operated thermostat with the features you may want. Like programmable times for temperature you desire and use its relay output to trigger the Powerflash in the dry contact mode. When the temperature rises above its cooling setting.

I monitor the temperature in my computer room with an old thermostate connected to a door/window security sensor.
If the temperature goes above my set point it trips the sensor, AHP detects this signal and sends a command.
I'm sure this type of setup would work for you.
