Why is it that if I try to use a camera to look outside through a window and the sun is shining all I get is a total white screen?

Because cameras can't squint! When the light is too bright... you get a white picture. It is likely that since the camera is inside the camera is in night mode (black and white picture with the IR lights ON)... so the bright outside is way over exposed... and appears bright white.

No the lights are not on, in fact the window is open and the camera is facing away from the sun. I realize these are fixed lenses but they should still be able to see. They are fine inside but even scanning, when they see a window they white out.

Also the web site shows pictures of this camera looking outside and seeing clearly!!
