LM15A-Socket Rockets and Fluorescents
« on: December 05, 2012, 11:29:26 AM »

I tried to put my garage entrance shop light on a Hawkeye Motion Sensor. Socket Rockets would not work. Also, neither would done of the old large wheel-code sockets. Is fluorescent a no-no on these?

Yes fluorescent and other loads that are not incandescent. Should not be used with those modules or any dimmer type module.

You have verified the X10 RF signal from the Hawkeye is reaching the X10 transceiver {TM751, RR501, CM15A etc.} and its power line signals are reaching the LM15A Socket Rocket or the older SL575/PLM02, by testing with a incandescent bulb?

Yes, the Hawkeye is operating the floodlights I have on my workbench fine, so I know the RF signal is hitting the powerline. I did not try an incandescent in the socket rockets. Now that I think about it, it's kinda funny there was no power even on the socket rocket with the code wheel. I just made the assumption that fluorescents did not work. Should a regular fluorescent shoplight be able to activated by a Hawkeye motion sensor? I may need to do more troubleshooting.

If the Hawkeye is controlling a module with a relay in it that does not dim. A fluorescent type load would be fine.
Any module that dims and the LM15A that does not dim but uses a Triac for On off Control. Should not be use with a fluorescent load.

the electronic ballasts kill X10 signals,  in my case, I was lucky enough to pull some old magnetic ballasts from the junk drawer.  You could try filtering the fluorescent light between the module and the load. that might work.

A solution that I have come up with uses the x-10 lamp module a 275-217  relay from the shack and a line noise isolation filter.
By powering the relay coil with the lamp module and having the relay contacts switch the power to the Fluorescent lamps isolated with a line noise filter, the x-10 signals are not lost and full current is supplied to the ballasts of the fluorescent with no loss anywhere. and being that the lamp module is used, it is able to turn on the fluorescent with the all lights command. you just have to remember that the power supplied to the ballasts can't go through the modules, just the relays. use a separate feed for controls and ballasts.
